Lots of snow this winter means greater chances of spring flooding. The tips in this email will help you to prepare and stay informed if flooding impacts your area.
Prepare for flooding
Prepare for flooding and other weather emergencies with these tips from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
- Make an emergency kit. Include food and supplies for your household for at least three days. Remember medications, hearing aid batteries, phone or device chargers and pet supplies.
- Make an emergency plan. Discuss and practice the plan with your household. Learn about local evacuation plans or shelters.
- Prepare your home. Use barriers to stop water from entering your home. Seal basement walls.
- Ask about flood insurance. Check with your insurance provider about what your policy covers. In most cases you need separate flood insurance.
