Below is a list of the upcoming courses that ETD offers to help government employees learn, grow, and lead.

February

Leading and Supervising Virtual and Hybrid Teams

This workshop teaches specific skills that assist in effectively leading and supervising in virtual and hybrid environments that may come naturally in face to face situations. This session addresses the challenges of working in virtual and hybrid environments and provides specific, tactical skills that increase engagement, improve relationships, and improve performance when working and managing from a distance.

Productive Conflict

Learn how to understand, navigate, and create constructive conflicts. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to understand what prevents them from feeling comfortable in conflict, identify their own preferences for conflict, when to use those and when to use other approaches different from your own, and use productive conflict strategies to strengthen relationships and motivate teams.

Successful Onboarding Strategies

In this course, you will gain knowledge and skills around successful onboarding processes, structure, and tools to directly support onboarding your new staff. You will be provided guidance on how to start or enhance successful implementation of onboarding best practices within your agency.

Take Charge of Your Career

This course is designed to help you navigate your career at the State of Minnesota, whether you want to develop a stronger presence in your current position or explore other career opportunities within the State.

Strategic Effectiveness for Aspiring Leaders (SEAL)

Strategic Effectiveness for Aspiring Leaders, also known as SEAL, is ideal for state employees in non-management roles that aspire to become leaders in state government and wish to build skills that will move them towards this goal.

Course Date: March 8, 15, 21, 29, and 30, 2023. All dates listed, except for March 21, will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 21 will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.| Cost: $935

Business Writing for Busy People

Do you want to be a more effective communicator in the workplace? In this course, we will explore business writing skills to help you communicate clearly and effectively across various mediums and types of messages.

Course Date: March 9 and 10, 2023, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. both days | Cost: $295

Leading Better with Diverse and Inclusive Teams

In order to inspire high performance, it is important for leaders to acknowledge and leverage the diversity and potential of individual team members as well as the group. In this course, evaluate which inclusive leadership skills you need to focus on; explore how the type of work setting influences team belonging; identify and address interpersonal communication derailers that may impact your team; and create a supportive, inclusive team culture to empower and retain your best talent.

IDI QA Certification

IDI Qualifying Seminars (QS) for individuals to be trained and licensed as IDI Qualified Administrators to use the Intercultural Development Inventory. The Online IDI QS will be presented by an experienced, licensed IDI Qualified Administrator in three sessions (4.5 hours each) across three days (one session per day). 

Course Date: April 3, 4 and 6, 2023, 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. all three days | Cost: $1,800

Project Management Fundamentals

In this course, you'll receive hands-on experience in learning, applying, practicing, and developing fundamental project management skills.

Customer Service Skills for Government Employees

If you work in public sector service, this course is a great way to recharge your batteries. Not only will you be reminded of the important role you play helping the public, you’ll also learn powerful ways to gain control during challenging service situations.

Communicating Strategically

This course will equip employees with the skills necessary to effectively deliver meaningful messages in a concise and diplomatic manner. Employees will learn a communication model that will ensure the information they share is heard and acted upon. The techniques and strategies presented in this virtual course will help you be more effective when engaging with the public, members of your own agency or department, and members of other agencies and departments.

Increasing Employee Engagement

How engaged are your employees? Do they actively seek out work projects and always strive to do their best or do they work just enough to meet the minimum requirements? This course will address how to build a strong culture of engagement.

Elevating Feedback Workshop

The Elevating Feedback™ Workshop will enable leaders to provide reinforcing and redirecting feedback to their employees. Leaders will discover how and when to provide positive feedback for recognition and corrective feedback to help others be more productive and cease less effective behavior.

Course Date: April 27 and May 4, 2023, 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. both days | Cost: $206.25

Retirement Seminars

Prepare yourself for retirement, whether that time is rapidly approaching or more than five years down the road. ETD offers two retirement seminars that cover important topics to help you prepare for the next chapter of your life.

The State Retirement Seminar

The State Retirement Seminar is for state employees who are planning to retire within five years or less. This online live seminar is now 2 full days with speakers and expertise on pension and social security benefits, health care savings plan, state insurance benefits, estate planning, and more. (Based on demand, seminars will be added as needed.) PLEASE NOTE: DOC employees should check with their fiscal department before enrolling in either of these retirement seminars. 
Dates: March 22, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and March 23, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  | Cost: $95


PrePlanning for Retirement Seminar

The PrePlanning for Retirement Seminar is for state employees who have more than five years until retirement. This online live seminar is now 2 full days with presenters that have expertise on pension and social security benefits, health care savings plan, estate planning, life and disability insurance, and more. (Based on demand, seminars will be added as needed.) PLEASE NOTE: DOC employees should check with their fiscal department before enrolling in either of these retirement seminars. 

Dates: April 19, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and April 20, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  | Cost: $95

Core Development

Increase your effectiveness as a supervisor or manager by learning more about your role and the state specific policies and practices that impact it. Develop related leadership skill sets through exploring topics such as increasing employee engagement, performance management, onboarding, and leading change. Expand awareness of your own personal communication and leadership styles.

Leadership Development

Cultivate your leadership to provide improved communication throughout your team. Increase team efficiency through action planning, self-assessment, redirecting and reinforcing feedback. You can also develop your leadership skills by enrolling or applying for our leadership development programs.
