Strategic Effectiveness for Aspiring Leaders (SEAL)

This four-day course is ideal for individuals aspiring to become leaders in state government. Build skills such as strategic problem solving, presenting to senior-level staff, effective communication, and personal strengths.

Course Dates: April 7, 14, 21, and 28, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. | Cost: $935

Communicating Strategically

This course will equip participants with the skills necessary to effectively deliver meaningful messages in a concise and diplomatic manner. Participants will learn a communication model that will ensure the information they share is heard and acted upon.

Time Management - Doing  More with Less

Most of us begin our days with a list of things to accomplish but can't find time to complete it all. Learn how to plan and prioritize so you can be more effective with your time and get more done.

Fostering an Inclusive Climate

How can you foster greater inclusion within your workgroup? Learn how to reflect upon your own experiences and examine the quality and openness of social interactions on your team. Practice and apply the specific behaviors and skills you need to demonstrate an inclusive climate.

Get your audience to take action by crafting messages in plain language. Learn to identify your key messages and explore new editing techniques to help you communicate clearly and effectively across platforms.

Creating Equity Leaders

Build characteristics of an equity-minded leader by creating short and long term goals with a diversity and inclusion focus.  Learn how to identify and minimize bias in leadership by bringing together diverse perspectives and building a sense of belonging on teams.

How we work and live is constantly changing. Learn to address these challenges by engaging in discussions and learning practical ways to build resilience in these challenging times.

Project Management Fundamentals

Get hands-on experience in learning, applying, practicing, and developing fundamental project management skills. You'll have the chance to practice and develop your skills by planning and managing a realistic business project through a computer simulation.

Retirement Seminars

Prepare yourself for retirement, whether that time is rapidly approaching or more than five years down the road, with two of our most popular courses. ETD offers two seminars that cover important topics like estate planning, MSRS pension, and long-term care to name just a few.

State Retirement Seminar 2021


The State Retirement Seminar is back after being on hold due to our new remote work environments. Enterprise Talent Development hosts the retirement information seminar for state employees who are five years or less from retirement. The online seminar is four half-day sessions with speakers and expertise on pension and social security benefits, health care savings plan, state insurance benefits, estate planning, long-term care, and more. Based on demand, seminars will be added as needed.

Dates: Mar. 16, 17, 18, and 19 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. | Cost: $50

Pre-Planning for Retirement seminar is geared towards employees who are MORE THAN 5 YEARS away from retiring. State Retirement Seminar is geared towards employees who are LESS THAN 5 YEARS away from retiring. DOC employees should check with their fiscal department before enrolling.

Core Development

Increase your effectiveness as a supervisor or manager by learning more about your role and the state specific policies and practices that impact it. Develop related leadership skill sets through exploring topics such as increasing employee engagement, performance management, onboarding, and leading change. Expand awareness of your own personal communication and leadership styles.
