We offer interactive virtual classes and programs to support the training and development needs of all State employees. We update our website with new, virtual training events as they are developed and ready to launch. Cultivating Motivation and Well-Being in the Workplace

In this workshop, leaders will learn about the PERMAH framework and how it can transform motivation. (Virtual Interactive Class)

De-escalation and Conflict Management

This course focuses on equipping customer service professionals with essential skills and techniques for effectively managing conflicts and de-escalating tense situations. (Virtual Interactive Class)

Business Writing Workshop

This workshop will give participants a refresher on basic writing concepts, and an overview of the most common business documents. (Virtual Interactive Class)

Fundamentals of Interpersonal Communication

In this course, participants learn how to be better communicators by understanding how communication habits can build trust in the workplace and how the communication process works. (Virtual Interactive Class)

Extraordinary Coach Workshop

Participants gain critical skills and tools needed to increase leadership effectiveness and coach others to perform at their peak. (Virtual Interactive Class)

Retirement Seminars

Prepare yourself for retirement, whether that time is rapidly approaching or more than five years down the road. ETD offers two retirement seminars that cover important topics to help you prepare for the next chapter of your life.

Retirement Seminars

Retirement seminars are currently being delivered via virtual classroom.

PrePlanning for Retirement Seminar

The PrePlanning for Retirement Seminar is for state employees who have more than five years until retirement. This online live seminar is one and a half (1.5) days with presenters that have expertise on pension and social security benefits, health care savings plan, estate planning, life and disability insurance, and more. (Based on demand, seminars will be added as needed.) PLEASE NOTE: DOC employees should check with their fiscal department before enrolling in either of these retirement seminars.
Dates: FY26: New dates have yet to be determined. | Cost: $125

The State Retirement Seminar

The State Retirement Seminar is for state employees who are planning to retire in five years or less. This online live seminar is two (2) full days with speakers and expertise on pension and social security benefits, health care savings plan, state insurance benefits, estate planning, and more. (Based on demand, seminars will be added as needed.) PLEASE NOTE: DOC employees should check with their fiscal department before enrolling in either of these retirement seminars.
Dates: FY25: May 21, 2025, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and May 22, 2025, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. | Cost: $125


Core Development

Increase your effectiveness as a supervisor, manager or HR professional by learning more about your role and the state specific policies and practices that impact it.

  • Supervisors and managers: Develop related leadership skill sets through exploring topics such as increasing employee engagement, performance management, onboarding, and leading change. Expand awareness of your own personal communication and leadership styles.
  • HR professionals: Increase your understanding of HR fundamentals in state government and gain new skills in areas such as DEAI, emotional intelligence and navigating the future of HR.

Supervisor Core

Virtual delivery format for Supervisor Core is set up as 13 half day sessions, each day is delivered from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. | Cost: $895
Course Dates: FY26: August 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, and 29, 2025 (Note: Any upcoming sessions of this course offered prior to these dates are full.)

Manager Core

Virtual delivery format for the next available Manager Core is set up as 6 full day sessions, each day is delivered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. | Cost: $895
Course Dates: FY26: August 26, 28, September 9, 11, 16, and 18, 2025 (Note: Any upcoming sessions of this course offered prior to these dates are full.)

Human Resource Core

Virtual delivery format for Human Resource Core is set up as 8 half day sessions, each day is delivered from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Cost: $250
Course Dates: FY26: July 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, and 24, 2025.

Leadership Development

Cultivate your leadership capabilities to provide improved communication throughout your team. Increase team efficiency through action planning, self-assessment, as well as providing and supporting feedback. Our leadership development programs help you develop these leadership abilities and more. Enroll or apply in the leadership development program that best fits with where you are in your current career path.

Strategic Effectiveness for Aspiring Leaders (SEAL)

Ideal for state employees in non-management roles that aspire to become leaders in state government and wish to build skills that will move them towards this goal. (Enrollment based program.) Course Dates: June 5, 6, 11, 12, and 26, 2025.

Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI)

The Emerging Leaders Institute is a cohort-based leadership development program designed to prepare future leaders in Minnesota government. You must apply and be accepted into the ELI program. Applications for the 2025-26 program will be available on May 1, 2025.

Senior Leaders Institute (SLI)

The Senior Leaders Institute focuses on preparing more experienced managers and directors for higher administrative roles in leadership. You must apply and be accepted into the SLI program. Applications for the 2025-26 program will be available on May 1, 2025.
