DHHSD has created a new tool as part of our Supporting Seniors with Vision and Hearing Loss training. The Vision and Hearing Loss Simulator allows you to select from various levels and types of vision and hearing loss, and experience for yourself what that is like in four different settings.

Try the Vision and Hearing Loss Simulator. Note: the simulator does not work using Internet Explorer. Please use another browser.

Instructions:

  1. Choose a setting from across the top of the simulator: Cards, Family, PCA, Yoga.
  2. Choose a type of vision loss from the lower left corner: normal, cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, floaters, diabetic retinopathy, stroke field cut left, stroke field cut right
  3. Choose a type of hearing loss from the lower right corner: normal, mild, moderate, severe, profound, tinnitus: high pitch tone, tinnitus: white noise, tinnitus: squeaking, tinnitus: running water
  4. As you watch and listen to the simulation, adjust the severity scales along the bottom of the Vision Loss type and Hearing Loss type.
  5. Keep exploring! Try different combinations of hearing and vision loss in the different scenarios.
