Duluth Hearing Loss Resource Fair

The Hearing Loss Resource Fair is a free event for people who are deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing, their families and providers and employers. There are two programs:

  1. The community program, open to the public, and
  2. The student program, for students, parents and educators.

Community program

You will find exhibitors on the main level and upper level. It is a wonderful opportunity to:

  • Visit with local organizations to find out how they provide communication access.
  • See assistive technology in action and learn about different tools that might make your life easier.
  • Find out about:
    • Patient communication kits developed for hospitals;
    • Culturally appropriate and linguistically competent mental health services for people who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing;
    • Employment services;
    • Social groups;
    • Volunteer opportunities and more.
  • Network with people who have hearing loss or use American Sign Language.

No sales are allowed at this event, letting everyone focus on resource-sharing and learning in a no-pressure environment. We look forward to seeing you there. Download a poster

Student program

This program is for deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing children, their parents and school staff. It provides interactive stations designed to:

  • Empower students
  • Foster positive community relationships and
  • Enhance understanding of hearing loss in emergency situations.

Students with hearing loss will engage with law enforcement officers and emergency services to:

  • Interact Safely: Learn essential skills for safe interaction with law enforcement, focusing on strategies that accommodate hearing loss.
  • Advocate for Accommodations: Learn how to request and advocate for communication supports, ensuring their needs are met during interactions.
  • Ask Questions: Join a Q&A session with law enforcement officers to address concerns related to hearing loss.
  • Practice Communication: Engage in mock scenarios to build confidence and effective communication skills in real-world situations.

This activity is for students and schools only, and takes place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Parents, please register your child or children, so we know how many students are attending and if your student needs transportation. Download a flyer for the Students and Safety event.
