St. Paul, Minnesota - The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (Commission) approved two electric vehicle (EV) pilot programs proposed by Dakota Electric Association to expand the availability of EV charging. These initiatives will make available EV rates for non-residential customers, such as small businesses, as well as an EV charging rate option for multi-family homes.

“These EV pilot programs will ensure access to electric vehicle rates for a diverse set of customers. The Commission appreciates this EV pilot proposal presented by Dakota Electric Association, as more electric vehicles on Minnesota roads will reduce emissions and improve air quality,” said Chair Katie Sieben.

Both pilot rates are based on Dakota Electric Association’s existing residential EV service, which the Commission approved in October of 2012. The rate design does not have a fixed monthly fee or a demand charge, and only applies in Dakota Electric’s service territory.
