St. Paul, Minnesota — On Friday, March 5, 2021, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission will hold its quarterly update meeting of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) to learn more about the potential effects of the 2021 polar vortex event on energy transmission and generation. MISO, Minnesota utilities, and the Department of Commerce will all participate and discuss questions related to reliability, performance, procurement, and pricing. Minnesota is part of the Midcontinental Independent System Operator (MISO), a system providing transmission, and monitoring services to the United States’ Midwest and southern regions, as well as Canada’s province of Manitoba. MISO maximizes the efficient use of electric generation under fluctuating power demands by selecting generators for dispatch through its Security Constrained Economic Dispatch software.
