Data Center

The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) is responsible for licensing teachers in Minnesota, establishing the state standards required to be a licensed teacher, approving the state’s teacher licensure programs, and overseeing teacher ethics cases. The PELSB Data Center provides a wealth of data about licensed educators, teacher preparation programs, teacher shortage areas, and trends in the teaching profession overtime.

All Board-approved teacher preparation programs, or Units, are required to collect and submit data on teacher candidate demographics and performance outcomes annually. These submissions are compiled, analyzed and published as the Teacher Preparation Summary Data Report. Data in this report encompasses the various stages of the teacher preparation journey, from enrollment to program completion. Units also provide data about their alumni who have been issued a teaching license in Minnesota, and secured employment in Minnesota schools. Prior to 2026, this report was published in PDF format. These reports are still available on the Narrative Reports page.

The Teacher Preparation Summary Data Report has previously been referred to as the Data Summary Report or the Teacher Preparation Program Data Summary Report.

To navigate within a PowerBI report, PELSB’s data team recommends using full-screen mode (select the arrows in the bottom right corner of the report).

Additionally, within PowerBI reports, the bottom bar includes page numbers with backwards and forward arrows. You can click on the these arrows to navigate to the previous or next page; you can also click on the numbers for a pop-up menu of all of the pages within the report for fast navigation. Many of PELSB’s data reports include slicers to filter for items like licensure area, demographics, location, and more.
