The Guardian ad Litem Board is responsible to administer a statewide, independent Guardian ad Litem Program to advocate for the best interests of children, minor parents and incompetent adults in Juvenile and Family Court.

The Board is required by statute to do the following: 

  • Approve and recommend to the legislature a budget for the Board and the program
  • Establish procedures for distribution of funding
  • Establish standards, administrative policies, procedures, and rules that affect a GAL's work
  • Appoint a Program Administrator
The statute permits the Board to also do the following: 
  • Adopt standards, policies, or procedures necessary to ensure quality advocacy for best interests of children
  • Propose statutory changes to legislature and rule changes to the Supreme Court
