On March 21, 2016 the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) officially announced the development of the “EPPP Step 2.” The EPPP Step 2 will be an addition to the EPPP, where the EPPP tests the candidate’s knowledge in the practice of psychology the EPPP Step 2 will assess the candidate’s competency to practice psychology.

This is a major and complex undertaking and the association (ASPPB) will take every measure necessary to develop a valid and meaningful test that will meet its intended objective. The EPPP Step 2 is expected to go into effect in 2019.

It is also a very important regulatory development for psychology boards throughout the United States and Canada. The EPPP Step 2 will offer a more nuanced ability to assess an applicant for licensure. That assessment will in turn translate in increased public protection for the citizens of Minnesota. For the board it is not only critical to measure that a candidate knows what is psychology (EPPP) but that it also knows how to apply that knowledge (EPPP Step 2.)

With that in mind and as a first step, the ASPPB is conducting a Job Task Analysis (JTA.) The JTA is similar to the practice analysis the association conducted in 2009. As the association embarks in the development of the EPPP Step 2 it is very important to have the most recent and accurate data at hand. The JTA will assist the association to “validate the knowledge statements used in the EPPP and to validate the competency model that will be used in the development of the EPPP Step 2.”

The JTA will be conducted through an electronic survey. This is where you get to play an important role in the development of the EPPP Step 2. The Minnesota Board of Psychology respectfully requests your participation in the JTA survey. Your input in this process is valuable and essential to the success of the EPPP Step 2. The link below will take you directly into the JTA survey. We will highly appreciate it if you can take a moment to complete the survey (link below.) It is estimated that the survey takes 30 minutes to complete. Your input is very important to us and to the association.

The Minnesota Board of Psychology thanks you in advance for your participation. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
