Two requirements for licensure as a Licensed Psychologist (LP) in Minnesota are passing the national Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) and the Minnesota Professional Responsibility Exam (PRE).
Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)
The EPPP tests your knowledge in the field of psychology and is administered through Pearson Vue Testing Services.
- After Board admission to take the EPPP, you will receive instructions on how to apply and schedule your exam.
- An additional testing fee is paid directly to Pearson Vue.
Minnesota Professional Responsibility Exam (PRE)
- The PRE is administered through the Board’s online services website.
- As of January 2, 2020, the PRE is an at-home, open book exam.
- Applicants register for the PRE by completing the registration through the Board’s online services as part of the licensure application.
- There is only one fee paid to the Board for PRE registration.
- Once admitted by the Board to take the PRE, you will receive instructions by email.
Fees for Additional Exam Attempts
- The Board does not collect a fee for additional registrations for either of the required exams.
- On additional EPPP exam attempts, applicants will still be responsible for paying any testing fee required by Pearson Vue to sit for the exam.

Testing Accommodations
The Minnesota Board of Psychology provides individuals with disabilities reasonable accommodations for the EPPP and/or the PRE. If you have a documented disability or impairment recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), you may request an accommodation to take an exam.
Accommodations for Applicants with Disabilities
If you have a documented disability or impairment affecting your ability to take the exams under standard conditions:
- Request accommodations during exam registration, specifying both your disability and special arrangements needed (e.g., extra time, separate room, reader).
- Provide documentation from a qualified health care professional describing your disability and its effect on your ability to take the examination under standard conditions.
- The healthcare professional submits documentation directly to the Board office at psychboard.license@state.mn.us promptly after registration.
- Documentation from the healthcare professional must be received before the accommodation can be reviewed and approved.
