Governor signs BOTP Fee change into law May 30th, 2019
The Governor and the legislature approved fee changes for occupational therapy practitioners in the State of Minnesota. The change will provide the necessary funds to continue establishment of the Board and ensure financial solubility. The Board receives no general funds to support its operations but must operate solely on revenue generated by the Board. A fee change will ensure the Board meets its key legislatively assigned responsibilities of public protection and the enforcement of competent and ethical practice.
In 2007, the fees were set to the current level. The number of practitioners in Minnesota has increased significantly since that time. Operating costs (e.g. information technology and legal costs) continue to increase. The current fees do not cover the cost of operations and establishment of the new Board. The Board has established a pattern of highly responsive customer service which requires significant staff time.
When will the fees change?
July 1st, 2019, the start of the new fiscal year, is the projected target date for the fee change.
Any renewals, late renewals, new applications for full license, temporary license applications, or duplicate license requests received on or after July 1st, 2019 are subject to the new fees.
When did the fees last increase?
Occupational Therapy Practitioners have never had a fee increase. The initial registration process began in 1996-1997. At that time, the fees for an occupational therapy license (new or renewal) were $180 AND a $62 surcharge (Total: $242.00). Occupational therapy assistant new/renewal fees were $100 AND a $36 surcharge (total: $136.00).
