Professional Geologist

AELSLAGID Board regulates Professional Geologists to ensure compliance with the Board’s Statutes and Rules, protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Professional Geologists perform work that may include investigation and analysis of earth systems, structure, processes, and history using the application of special knowledge of the mathematical, physical, chemical, biological, and earth sciences to such services. Professional geology is a geoscience profession defined by the Board and only those holding a license may call themselves a "Professional Geologist." Unlicensed staff working on Minnesota projects must be supervised by a Minnesota-licensed Professional Geologist.

Minnesota requires a Professional Geologist’s certification and signature on plans, drawings, specifications, reports, and other documents as provided by Minnesota Statute § 326.12, subd. 3 and Minnesota Rule 1800.4200. Further information about certifications and signatures can be found here.
