File a Complaint

If you believe there has been a violation of the Statutes or Rules under the jurisdiction of the Minnesota Board of AELSLAGID, you may submit a written complaint. The Board reviews all complaints within its authority.

How to File a Complaint

  • Review the Complaint Process.
  • Complete the Complaint Registration Form.
  • Sign and date the form (required).
  • Mail, email, or deliver the completed form and any supporting documents to the Board office. Complaints are not accepted via phone or facsimile (fax).

Important Notes

While the Board accepts anonymous complaints, unless the complaint contains publicly available information, the Board may be unable to proceed with the complaint.

Seeking Information About Complaints

  • Information about active investigations of complaints is confidential and unable to be provided. See Minnesota Statute 13.41, subd. 4.
  • Complaints are considered active or ongoing until they are closed. Complainants and Respondents are informed in writing if a complaint has been closed.
  • Information about closed complaints is private and may only be provided to the subject of that data. See Minnesota Statute 13.41, subd. 2.
  • Complaints resulting in disciplinary action have orders made available to the public on the Board’s website. See Minnesota Statute 13.41, subd. 5.

The Board’s Authority

  • The Minnesota Board of AELSLAGID has jurisdiction over architects, professional engineers, land surveyors, landscape architects, professional geologists, professional soil scientists, and certified interior designers and instances of unlicensed practice in these professions for matters under Minnesota Statutes 326.02–326.15 and Minnesota Rules Chapters 1800 and 1805.
  • The Board’s enforcement authority is described in Minnesota Statute 326.111.
  • Complaints may be filed by anyone and must be in writing.
  • Complaints are not public information and may only be discussed with the Respondent (the subject of the investigation) and the Complainant.
  • The Board is mandated to investigate all complaints that fall within its authority.

The Complaint Committee

  • The Board Chair appoints five Board members to serve on the Complaint Committee.
  • Committee composition limits: no more than one member from each profession regulated by the Board, and no more than two public members.
  • The Committee meets approximately eight times a year.
  • The Committee is supported by the staff investigator, the Board’s Executive Director, and the Minnesota Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Board.
