Professional Engineering

AELSLAGID Board regulates Professional Engineers to ensure compliance with the Board’s Statutes and Rules, protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Professional Engineers perform work that may include the planning or design of structures, buildings, utilities, or equipment when such professional service requires the application of the principles of mathematics and the physical and applied engineering sciences. The title “Professional Engineer” or “PE” in any form is a protected title in Minnesota, see Minnesota Statute § 326.02, subd. 1 and 3. Unlicensed staff working on Minnesota projects must be supervised by a Minnesota-licensed Professional Engineer.

Disciplines of Professional Engineering include but are not limited to Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Environmental, Chemical, and Fire Protection. Please note: Minnesota is not a discipline-specific state.

Minnesota requires a Professional Engineer’s certification and signature on plans, drawings, specifications, reports, and other documents as provided by Minnesota Statute § 326.12, subd. 3 and Minnesota Rule 1800.4200. Further information about certifications and signatures can be found here.
