Civility Caucus

The Minnesota Legislative Civility Caucus is made up of legislators committed to building trust and understanding between parties and is led by one Republican and one Democrat from each legislative body. The long-term goal of Civility Caucus activities is to build cross-party relationships that foster effective policy-making. The Office of Collaboration and Dispute Resolution has provided strategic and operational support to the Civility Caucus since 2018.
History
In 2017, the National Institute for Civil Discourse ’s (NCID) conducted its Building Trust Through Civil Discourse training at a legislative professional development conference that year. The interest generated at this training inspired legislators to create the Civility Caucus (formerly called the Bipartisan Caucus) as a forum for ongoing development of relationships and civility in the legislature.
Get Involved
Any interested Minnesota legislator may attend Civility Caucus-sponsored events, most of which occur during the legislative session. Events have included trainings, presentations, facilitated conversations, happy hours, and more. Watch for emails from the Civility Caucus Chairs about upcoming events. If you have ideas and want to build cross-partisan relationships, attend an event and/or give OCDR feedback on your experience!
