Workers' Compensation Decisions - FAQs

The case archive currently includes decisions issued by the court from 1999 to the present. These decisions include all opinions issued by the Workers' Compensation Court of Appeals (WCCA), published and unpublished, but, as a general rule, do not include administrative orders. The case archive also includes Minnesota Supreme Court opinions in appeals from decisions of the WCCA, both summary affirmances and written opinions.

As a general rule, newly issued cases are added within 2 weeks after filing and service on the parties.

A search will return the title of the case, a summary of the headnotes (syllabus) for the case, and the date on which the case was served and filed.

To open and read a case, click on the title of the case.

To see a list of all cases issued in a particular year, enter the From Date and To Date in the search form to define your date range, then click the Search button. Clicking on a case title opens the case.

Click in the From Date box and type in the starting date using the format m/d/yyyy.  Do the same for the ending date in the To Date box.  Or use the drop down calendar to select the dates - select the year, then the month, and lastly the day.

The WCCA will add older decisions to the case archive as staff work loads permit. For decisions not in the case archive, please contact WCCA at wcca.mail@state.mn.us.

Cite cases by the case name (title), case number (if given) or "slip op.", court name, and date issued. For example, McLeod v. Magnusen Farms, No. WC06-224 (W.C.C.A. Apr. 10, 2007); Harstad v. Park Mfg., slip op. (W.C.C.A. Aug. 28, 2002). The court does not have access to electronic databases such as Westlaw or Lexis and the citation method used here is preferred.
