Teaching License Requirements for Individuals who are Deaf For a teaching license, a person must show in an examination that s/he has skills in reading, writing and mathematics. A deaf applicant must show math skills through the official examination, but can demonstrate reading in writing skills via the exam or by showing proficiency(Intermediate Plus) in the use of alternative communication systems such as sign language or finger spelling.
