Prohibited Discipline Methods Restrictive procedures are used by some special education programs to gain control over a child during an emergency. It involves the physical holding or seclusion of the child. A restrictive procedure that is used to stop or reduce aggressive behavior cannot include restricting a child's access to his/her hearing aids. Schools can allow the use of restrictive procedures but only be used by licensed special education teacher, school social worker, school psychologist, behavior analyst, and other licensed education professional/paraprofessional.
