​​Autism Resource Symposium returns April 12, 2023

​DHS, in partnership with several state agencies, will host the second annual MN Autism Resource Symposium on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, to support Autism Acceptance Month. The theme for the virtual event is “Partners in progress,” which promotes finding solutions, bridging gaps and advocating for change.

  • ​Date: Wednesday, April 12, 2023
  • ​Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • ​Register: Webex registration
  • Some of the highlights include:
    • ​Opening speaker, Minnesota State Representative Kim Hicks, (DFL) District: 25A, Rochester. Rep. Hicks is a parent of an Autistic child, subject matter expert and advocate
    • ​Keynote Panel: The Experience of Autistic Women from 2-3:30
    • ​Updated Autism prevalence data from the Minnesota Autism Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network
  • Accommodations: American Sign Language (ASL) and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) provided. Use the /autism/contact-us.jspAutism Contact Form to request other accommodations by Friday, March 31, 2023.

​Background

​The symposium is a joint effort by several state agencies to promote health, use of coordinated supports, education and resiliency in the state’s autism community.

​The symposium partnership includes:

  • ​DHS
  • ​Minnesota Department of Education (MDE)
  • ​Department of Health (MDH)
  • ​Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED)
  • ​University of Minnesota Institute on Community Integration (ICI).
​Purpose
  • ​To promote coordinated supports, health, education and resiliency for the Minnesota autism community
  • ​The MN Autism Resource Symposium is an opportunity for the Minnesota Autism Community to:
    • ​Come together
    • ​Explore support options
    • ​Learn from one another
    • ​Be inspired!
​Audience
  • ​Youth and adults with autism, parents, caregivers, advocates, lead agencies, educators, health care professionals, providers, employers and others
