Asset Management
The Office of School Trust Lands is developing a 25-year Asset Management Plan to guide the management of Minnesota’s 2.5 million acres of school trust lands and an additional one million acres of severed mineral interests. Phase One is complete, and Phase Two is currently underway.
Boundary Waters
The State of Minnesota and the United States Forest Service are working together to transfer to federal ownership approximately 80,000 acres of school trust lands located within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Ecosystem Services
Some school trust lands contain wetlands, wildlife habitat, rare species, or other ecological features that can affect how the land is managed and its potential for conventional revenue-generating uses. In some cases, those same characteristics may create opportunities to generate financial value through environmental markets or incentive programs.
