School Trust Management
A Trustee's Duties
As trustee, the state must manage school trust financial and land assets “consistent with the best interests of trust beneficiaries” pursuant to the Minnesota Constitution and state law.
Responsibilities
Minnesota’s school trust lands and the Permanent School Fund are administered through a shared system of land management, fiduciary oversight, legislative review, financial management, investment, and distribution. Each participating body has a distinct role.
"Whole Trust"
The whole-trust concept would view Minnesota’s school trust lands, mineral interests, and Permanent School Fund assets as parts of a single portfolio, with a focus on long-term value, financial performance, and support for current and future beneficiaries.
