What: Legislative Advocacy - Changing Policy, Changing Lives

Special Guests: Del Shea Perry and Gina Evans
Format: Noon to 1:00 PM for presentation; 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM for discussion and questions.
 
Real systems change often requires action at the legislative level. Join us for a presentation and discussion on how that change happens.
 
Special guests Del Shea Perry and Gina Evans will join Ombuds Haase for a panel discussion about their experience advocating for legislative change. 

  • Del Shea Perry is the founder of Be Their Voices, a non-profit organization who advocates for those incarcerated or who were once incarcerated and were neglected, abused, or murdered.  After the death of her son Hardel Sherrell while in jail custody, Ms. Perry's advocacy and leadership helped to pass jail reform legislation in Minnesota known as the Hardel Sherrell Act. 
  • Gina Evans is the Director Of Advocacy at MN Adult and Teen Challenge and Secretary of the board of directors of MN Second Chance Coalition. She has over 20 years of experience in corrections and substance use disorder advocacy. Over the years, Ms. Evans has been instrumental in legislation for everything from alternatives to incarceration and funding for the Ombudsperson office to DHS Background Study Disqualifications.

  • Community Organizations' Legislative Platforms
    • We have invited community groups to share up to two minutes about their upcoming legislative proposals.
