Data Practices
The Office of the Ombuds for Corrections has access to confidential and private data that cannot be shared with the public.

The OBFC follows the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 13. This is a state law that controls how government data are collected, created, stored, used, and released.

In addition, Minnesota Statute, Chapter 241.94 provides the OBFC with access to corrections and detention data and medical data.
Private or Confidential Data
Data the OBFC collects to investigate a complaint are classified as private or confidential data under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. See Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 13.856 for more information.
Public Data
The name, location, and OID number (if applicable) of complainants is public data under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and the OBFC statute.
