How to Engage with the HPSP
Regulated health professionals who cannot practice with reasonable skill and safety due to illness must report to the program or their board. Reporting to HPSP fulfills the reporting requirements related to illness as established in individual professional practice acts. Reports submitted in accordance with statute are confidential and are immune from civil liability.
The HPSP offers three main pathways for healthcare professionals to seek potential monitoring:
Self-Reporting to HPSP
If you’re a licensed healthcare professional facing challenges that could be affecting your ability to practice, you can reach out to HPSP directly. We can be reached confidently at 651-642-0487 or hlbhpsp@state.mn.us. Self-reporting is a confidential process where you can voluntarily disclose your situation with a case manager and determine eligibility to participate and what that might look like. Additional information and frequently asked questions can be found here.
Referrals from Health Regulating Boards (Disciplinary and Non-Disciplinary)
A board may refer any regulated person to the program consistent with section 214.32, subdivision 4, if the board believes the regulated person will benefit and the public will be protected. If you are referred to HPSP your board will direct you on how and when to get in contact to us. Questions regarding board referrals can be directed to HPSP and the regulating board.
Third-Party Confidential Reports
In some cases, third parties—such as colleagues, employers, or concerned family members— report licensed healthcare professionals confidentially to HPSP when there are practice concerns. These reports are completely confidential. HPSP will contact the individual to determine monitoring needs. To report a practitioner complete the following Third Party Referral Form (PDF) and e-mail to hlbhpsp@state.mn.us or fax it to us at 651-797-1380.
