Criminal Background Check

Overview of the Criminal Background Check Process

Dear License Applicant - Minnesota law and Board policy statutorily requires that all applicants for initial licensure or reinstatement of a license must complete a Federal and State fingerprint-based criminal background check. The law requiring these background checks is Minn. Stat. § 214.075.

The Minnesota Health Licensing Boards have cooperatively established a Criminal Background Check Program to help you efficiently complete this mandatory background check. Please direct any questions you have about the background check process to Criminal Background Check Program staff, not the MN Board and see the Criminal Background Check website for more details.

In Minnesota, a formal application to the Board will initiate this separate process conducted by another agency, the Criminal Background Check Program (CBC). Initial results indicate this may add three to four weeks to complete the CBC and application for the license process. Once you apply online or the paper application is received, the Criminal Background Check Program will contact you with directions to complete the fingerprint-based CBC. The $35.00 fee is included within the total application fee amount and there is no additional fee. The Minnesota Board of Dietetics and Nutrition Practice will be informed of the results and more your application forward. It is your responsibility to have your fingerprints taken and to complete all required paperwork.
