Tribal Relations
Minnesota law acknowledges a distinct government-to-government relationship between federally recognized Tribal Nations in Minnesota, the State of Minnesota, and the United States federal government. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission is dedicated to actively engaging with each Tribal Nation in Minnesota in a deliberate and significant manner.
In 2019, the Commission established a Tribal Consultation Policy to direct its interactions with Tribal Nations. The Commission is committed to mutual learning and fostering relationships with Tribal Nations in Minnesota.
Tribal Liaison
As outlined in the Consultation Policy, the Commission appointed a tribal liaison. The primary role of the liaison is to serve as a consistent and responsive point of contact for Tribal Nations in Minnesota, facilitate meetings between Tribal Governments and the Commission, and ensure that they are informed about Commission matters that are relevant to Tribal Nations or their members.
