[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz today celebrated the news that sustainable aviation fuels will now qualify for tax credits under President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. With a nation-leading sustainable aviation fuel tax credit, Governor Walz has led efforts to grow the sustainable aviation fuels industry in Minnesota.

“Sustainable aviation fuels will help us meet our climate goals, support our crop-based biofuels sector, and grow our economy,” said Governor Tim Walz. “President Biden’s new tax credit is fantastic news for farmers and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to this growing industry. By supporting the production and supply of sustainable fuels, we’re reducing our carbon footprint, supporting rural communities, and creating good-paying jobs across the country.”

In August, Governor Walz highlighted Minnesota’s efforts to grow the sustainable aviation fuel industry through Minnesota crop-based biofuels. This year, the Governor signed a nation-leading sustainable aviation fuel tax credit into law. The new tax credit, combined with new federal tax breaks, will help grow the emerging sustainable aviation fuel industry in Minnesota. The Inflation Reduction Act was passed by the United States Congress and signed into law by President Biden in August of 2022.
