In the September issue of General Dentistry, Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) authors describe findings of a 2015 survey of antibiotic prescribing habits in the state.
The survey, developed and promoted in partnership with Minnesota Dental Association (MDA) and Minnesota Board of Dentistry (MBOD), was critical to identify common challenges to stewardship.
One of the greatest challenges is awareness of current prescribing guidelines and a propensity of dentists to prescribe antibiotics in situations beyond what is considered best practice.
MDH is working with MDA and MBOD to close the antibiotic stewardship gaps in Minnesota's dental profession by providing resources and educational opportunities.
