Eric Guthrie

Senior Demographer

Eric Guthrie is a Senior Demographer in the Minnesota State Demographic Center. Eric came to the Demographic Center in May of 2021 following time in other states where he managed the South Dakota Rural Life and Census Data Center and served as the State Demographer for the State of Michigan. Throughout his career, Eric has always found the greatest fulfillment in using demographic knowledge and techniques to help others better understand the world in which we live and work. This has led to countless presentations ranging from local township meetings all the way up to legislative testimony.

Eric earned a PhD in sociology with an emphasis in demography and deviance from South Dakota State University. His work at SDSU focused on rural demography and extending the utility of public use data. Eric also has a Master’s degree in teaching from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
