One of the biggest struggles in the State’s race to end Veteran Homelessness has been identifying landlords willing to give homeless Veterans a second chance. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs announced today that landlords who rent to Veterans currently listed on the Minnesota Homeless Veterans Registry could be eligible for a $1,000 incentive.
Landlords, property owners and the media are invited to attend a reception with Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges to learn more about the important role landlords play in housing Veterans in our community.

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs’ Homeless Veterans Registry is among 10 winners of this year’s Minnesota State Government Innovation Awards. The awards, which recognize innovation and service redesign in state government, are hosted by the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs. MDVA’s efforts to end Veteran homelessness using the Homeless Veterans Registry will be recognized in an award ceremony today at the Minnesota History Center.
Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) will be holding the 23rd annual Metro Area Veterans’ StandDown August 4 - 5 at the Boy Scout Base Camp at Fort Snelling. Free on-site assistance for homeless and underserved Veterans will include VA medical clinic, hot meals, clothing, VA benefit information, hygiene kits, legal assistance (including court, federal and state tax assistance), housing and employment assistance, mental health resources, DMV, haircuts, chaplaincy, public benefits information, and more.
A time capsule filled with artifacts preserved for future Veterans is scheduled to be buried at the Minneapolis Veterans Home Thursday, June 18 at 2 p.m. Residents, families and the Veterans community have been involved in selecting the items to be included in the time capsule. The items will be on display briefly before the burial.
Memorial Day is a time to honor the memory and service of all Veterans and military members who have given their lives in the service of this country. The Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls is hosting a Memorial Day program in honor of our fallen service-members. The program will begin with a concert by the Richfield Symphonic Band, followed by the parade of flags. The program will also have a special recognition for women in the military.
