Stolen Medal Returned to Family after Nearly Six Decades
January 28, 2014
The family of a Veteran killed in action during the Korean War will be presented with a Purple Heart Medal thought to be lost for decades. Commissioner Larry Shellito with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs will present the medal to family members during a small ceremony Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 marks the 72nd Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor. The 1941 Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor was a defining moment in U.S. history. The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and Fort Snelling National Cemetery Memorial Rifle Squad will host a remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 7 in St. Paul to honor those who served, and remember those who gave their lives in the defense of Pearl Harbor.
Construction begins on Minnesota’s second State Veterans Cemetery

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) broke ground today on a new State Veterans Cemetery in southeastern Minnesota. The 169-acre site was donated by Fillmore County and the City of Preston, and is located just off Highway 52 in Preston, Minn.
