How to Read the Grids

The Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Grids are tables used to determine the presumptive sentence for felony convictions. Each grid has two axes: the vertical axis represents the severity level of the offense, and the horizontal axis represents the offender's criminal history score. The intersection of these two points on the grid indicates the recommended sentence length, which may be a prison sentence or a stayed sentence (probation).
