Mission

To educate, empower, and advocate alongside Minnesota licensed family child care providers in reaching the highest attainable standards of fairness, transparency, and accountability rooted in statute and practice.

Inclusion and equity

The Office of the Ombuds for Family Child Care Providers places the highest value on ensuring the inclusion of historically marginalized communities and principles of equity in advocating for systemic change and fair treatment in the family child care licensing system. Intentional efforts must be made to right the wrongs of the systemic and individual exclusionary practices and inequity, whether implicit or explicit.  This office is committed to intentional practices that honor lived experiences and value people.

Land recognition

We recognize that Mni Sota Makoce (Minnesota), “the land where the waters reflect/meets the sky,” is the homeland of the Daḳota, Anishinaabe and other Native nations’ peoples. The cultural, spiritual, and economic practices of the Indigenous populations are intrinsically woven on this landscape. Today, the State of Minnesota shares geography with the Native nations who acknowledge this land as inherent to their tribal histories.

By offering this land acknowledgment, we affirm tribal sovereignty and hold ourselves accountable to recognize and counter both the historical and contemporary injustices that continue to impact Indigenous people, through mutually beneficial partnerships, policies, and practices that respect indigeneity.
