148th Fighter Wing
Description
The Duluth-based 148th Fighter Wing is an F-16CM 'Block 50' Fighting Falcon aircraft equipped National Guard flying wing with more than 1,000 Airmen. The unit provides mission-ready Airmen and equipment to meet state and federal missions while promoting critical partnerships. The wing flies the Air Force's newest and most capable F-16 model, providing suppression of enemy air and surface-based defenses. The 148th is a North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, aerospace control alert-trained unit capable of defending the air sovereignty of North America.
2025 Accomplishments
In 2025, the 148th Fighter Wing’s “Bulldogs” trained, deployed, and met its personnel recruiting and retention goals. Over 150 Airman of the wing deployed to the U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility. They participated in two inter-service exercises involving multiple countries in the in the area. For the first time ever the 148th Fighter Wing sent F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft to Norway and conducted an agile combat employment exercise, integrating with the Royal Norwegian Air Force. The wing also conducted a one-week flying integration training event at home station with a contingent of Norwegian F-35 Lightning II aircraft.
In addition to those initiatives, the 148th continued to support NORAD’s 24/7 aerospace control alert mission, changing duty locations and integrating with the Air Force Reserve. Their security forces squadron planned and facilitated the National Guard’s Cold Weather Operations Course at Camp Ripley for 72 Airmen from 15 states and numerous career fields. Finally, the 148th maintained a 93% personnel retention rate and finished the fiscal year with over 102% end-strength.
2026 Objectives
In 2026, the 148th Fighter Wing will focus on preparing for an aviation tasking that will support national strategic initiatives. The wing will continue to modernize facilities, military operating airspace, and building crucial community partnerships. The unit will continue to be ready to succeed against current and future threats.
