[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, Governor Tim Walz signed H.F. 90, a package of senior and vulnerable adult care reforms to establish greater protections for residents of assisted living facilities, into law. Among other protections, the bill requires all assisted living facilities to be licensed, creates a resident’s bill of rights, and allows residents and their families to install cameras in the resident’s room.

“No Minnesotan or their family should have to worry about their safety when putting their trust in an assisted living facility,” said Governor Walz. “Reports of elder abuse in Minnesota are tragic and unacceptable. This law will create long-overdue protections to help ensure every resident of an assisted living facility is cared for and safe. Thank you to all the victims, families, providers, and concerned Minnesotans for your tireless advocacy to get this done.”

There will be a ceremonial bill signing of H.F. 90 this summer.
