[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced today that chaplains from three different faiths will deliver the invocation prior to the State of the State address for the first time in Minnesota history. Rabbi Marcia Zimmerman of Temple Israel, Imam Asad Zaman of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, and Bishop Patricia Lull of Saint Paul Area Synod will issue the invocation together at Wednesday’s address.
“These three faith leaders understand the meaning of One Minnesota—and they are practicing what they preach,” Governor Walz said. “Our state is made better by our vibrant faith communities. We are humbled to have the voices of our Christian, Jewish, and Muslim neighbors represented at this historic event.”
“One Minnesota does not mean we are all the same—it means we come together across lines of difference around our shared values for the common good,” Lieutenant Governor Flanagan said. “Governor Walz and I want to elevate the diverse voices of all Minnesotans, and we are proud that we are able to celebrate three different faiths as part of the State of the State address.”
The State of the State Address will be delivered on Wednesday, April 3 at 7:00 pm in the Minnesota State Capitol House Chamber, 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55155.
