Letter to The POST Board in Support of First Amendment Assembly StandardBefore the recent protests erupted in Brooklyn Center, and based on the reprehensible response of some officers to some protests last summer, we foresaw the need for stronger protections for those who want to exercise their First Amendment rights. At that time, we asked the POST Board to call an emergency meeting to put these recommendations into place before the Derek Chauvin Trial began, but those recommendations were not followed. Since then, we have had another law enforcement officer kill another unarmed black man and have had another protest and another disproportionate response to those protest by law enforcement.
