The role of the Council is to advise the state legislature and Governor on issues confronting People of African Heritage. In addition to this the Council works to engage Minnesotans of African Heritage in the legislative process, provide opportunities to get involved and information needed to navigate the legislative process and which makes a direct impact during the legislative session.
During Session: Do the Following Things:
Contact your Legislator: - Schedule a legislative visit, send an email or call your legislator and encourage them to support an issue or a specific bill.
Attend a Public Hearing – Committee hearings take place Monday – Thursday and our open to the public. The presence of community at committee hearings can have a profound impact on the issue and illustrates the importance of an issue to the African Heritage community.
Public & Written Testimony- If you have been impacted by any of the above issues and would like to share your experience at a public hearing, you may sign up to offer public testimony or send in your written testimony if you are not to attend.
Send CMAH an Email - The Council is always open to hear from our community about their needs. If you want to tell the Council about an issue affecting you or your general community, send an email to cmah@state.mn.us
