Join the Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage as we rally in the Capitol Rotunda and to discuss furthering equity in our state. There will be remarks from Minnesota's United Black Caucus members, Gov. Walz, Attorney General Ellison, State Commissioners of African Heritage and Chris Taylor the Governor's Chief Inclusion Officer. There will also be an opportunity to meet with lawmakers to discuss issues facing the African heritage community, after the rally.
The event will take place on the main level of the state capitol building, inside of the Rotunda. Admission is free, metered parking is available in various lots around the capitol complex. Public transit is also a convenient option.
Who should attend? Members of the African Heritage community who are interested in learning about the upcoming legislative Session and how to get involved with the Council.
What will happen? We will rally in the Capitol Rotunda and hear from members of the United Black Legislative Caucus, Governor Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, Commissioners Roberts-Davis, Toms and Harrington as well as the Governors Chief Diversity and Inclusion officer Chris Taylor. Following the rally, community members will lead visits with lawmakers to discuss a wide range of issues impacting the African heritage community (see attached document for more details).
When? Wednesday, Feb. 26th from 2 – 4 PM
Where? The event will take place inside the state capitol building on the main level, just inside the doors in the Rotunda.
Parking: Lots open to the public are highlighted in green on the above image of the State Capitol. Metered Parking is available in Lots Q, C, AA, X, G, H, I, J, K, U, W and on the Orange level of the Centennial Office Building ramp (COB Ramp), which are all located on the Capitol Complex. Childcare Families are welcome to attend, there will not be childcare provided.
Accessibility: The state capitol is accessible for handicapable community members. There is a ramp to gain access to the building, an elevator and all the bathrooms in the building have a handicapable stall.
Food: Food is not permitted in the Rotunda.
