About US

In 2015, the Council was renamed the Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage. Prior to this, the Council was called the Council on Black Minnesotans. The name was changed to be more inclusive of the African descent diaspora that resides in Minnesota. The Council is tasked with making sure Minnesotans of African heritage fully and equitable benefit from the policies and procedures of the State of Minnesota. To put it simply, we serve as an liaison between the the State's government and it's African heritage community.  The Council has worked for the past 41 years to push forth and advocate for legislation and polices that benefit our community. As you explore our website, you will learn about the achievements of the Council and the people behind the work.
