Senior Projections Demographer
Megan Dayton is the Minnesota State Demographic Center’s Senior Projections Demographer. Since 2012, she has been responsible for preparing the annual population projections by age and gender for the State of Minnesota and its 87 counties, in addition to other special projections projects. These projects include, but are not limited to, labor force participation, households, primary school enrollment, and race/ethnicity projections. Megan is the Minnesota state representative to the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Population Projections (FSCPP). She is a member of Population Association of America (PAA), the Southern Demographic Association (SDA), and the Golden Key International Honour Society.
Megan holds a master's degree in applied demography from the Center for Demography and Population Health at Florida State University. She is experienced in preparing demographic projections for many different geographies, variables, and purposes. Her research interests include improving upon existing forecasting methodologies used for state and sub-state areas, as well as social stratification and more general demographic trends related to fertility, mortality, and migration patterns. A native Michigander, Megan lives in Saint Paul with her husband and two children.
