The mission of the Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators is to promote the public's interest in quality care and effective services for residents of nursing facilities by ensuring that licensed administrators are qualified to perform their administrative duties.

2016-2017 Renewal for LNHAs

Online renewals are available online May 1st to June 30th.

Current licenses expire June 30 each year. LNHAs must renew their license prior to July 1 to assure they have a current license on that date.Fee for renewal is $200. Renewing prior to June 30 assures that the $50 late fee is not assessed, and for LNHAs who are administrators of record in Minnesota skilled facilities, this means avoidance of any ramifications regarding compliance issues resulting from unlicensed practice.

To renew between May 1 and June 30:

  1. Log-in to you online user account (I forgot my username/password)
  2. Select the renewal option in your user account
  3. Have your CE certificates and method of payment (VISA or Mastercard/credit or debit) ready
  4. Complete the online renewal process

If you do not receive your license within a week of submitting your renewal and have not received an email from Board staff regarding a CE audit or other issue, contact the board office.

LNHA Job Posting Service

A LNHA requested that BENHA provide a job posting service which is now live on the website with a limited group of postings. The Board supports the existing association model of job postings and added this feature as another resource to connect the LNHA to communities requiring a LNHA as their administrator of record.  Since it is a trial period, the board appreciates any feedback to improve this new service.

PROPOSED RULEMAKING – Request for Comment

The Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (“Board”) conducted various meetings with providers and academics stakeholders over the past year and has formally initiated the rulemaking process to modify its current administrative rules (Minn. Rules 6400). Procedures require that the board update communications and make public notice by the Board’s original publication of the “Request for Comments” in the Minnesota State Register which were published on November 30, 2015.  You may review the Board’s current proposed rule modifications found in the Proposed Permanent Rules document.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOCUS OF THE RULEMAKING: The Proposed Amendments to Rules include Governing Definitions, Applying for Licensure, Specific Course Requirements, Practicum Duration, Academic Program Review, Licensee Responsibilities, Displaying Licenses, Renewing Licenses, Acting Administrator Permits, Number of CE Credits for Activities, Disciplinary Action, Minnesota Rules, all found in Minnesota Rules; Chapter 6400.

Should you have any questions, comments or concerns about the proposed modifications, or any of the Board’s other rules, please feel free to submit them in writing to the Board.  The initial “Request for Comments” and sixty day comment period ended January 27, 2016. The board reviewed those four comments received during that period and continues to work through the required steps and timeline.  The Board will continue to answer on going questions or comments and will review at all quarterly board meetings.    Once the final modifications are approved by the Board, it will publish a “Notice of Intent to Adopt Rules” in the Minnesota State Register. At that time, interested parties will have the opportunity to submit written comments, support or objections to the modifications, as well as request a formal public hearing. If the Board were to receive 25 or more written requests for a hearing, it will be held in the time and place indicated in the Notice of Intent to Adopt Rules.
