Racetrack Entry Requirements

CANTERBURY PARK & RUNNING ACES ADMISSION POLICY 2026

All entry documents including Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (CVI/Health Certificate) and Coggins must be emailed as attachments (DO NOT send photos in the body of your email they MUST be attachments) to the commission PRIOR to your arrival at the racetrack. Only legible documents will be accepted. All documents should be sent to mrcinfo@state.mn.us at least 48 hours prior to arrival.

 

HEALTH CERTIFICATES

·       Each horse (including pony/outrider horses) entering the grounds for the first time must have an original health certificate (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection or CVI) issued within five (5) days of arrival and a negative Coggins Test Certificate issued within twelve (12) months of arrival. The destination provided on the health certificate should be either Canterbury Park, Shakopee, MN or Running Aces Harness Park, Columbus, MN.  Equine rhinopneumonitis (EHV-1 and EHV-4) and Influenza vaccination dates, specific product used with product expiration date, and rectal temperature for each horse must be included on the health certificate.

·       For those trainers shipping in and out, a copy of the health certificate valid for thirty (30) days will be available in the Commission’s veterinarian’s office upon request. It must be renewed the first five days of each month.

 

VACCINATIONS

• Every horse entering the enclosure of the racetrack must have been vaccinated by a veterinarian with an FDA approved modified live or killed virus vaccine specific for EHV-1 and EHV-4 and Influenza not less than 14 days and not more than 180 days prior to date of entry. The specific product used and product expiration date as well as the date the horse was vaccinated must appear on the health certificate.
• Vaccinations for Eastern and Western Encephalitis, West Nile Virus, Rabies and Tetanus are required for HISA covered horses to enter the grounds and dates administered should be documented on the health certificate. They are not required for Quarter Horses or Standardbreds but are highly recommended. Vaccination for Streptococcus equi (Strangles) is recommended, but not required for Thoroughbred, Quarter Horses or Standardbreds.

 

PIROPLASMOSIS

• Horses with a health certificate originating from a state with suspect cases of Equine Piroplasmosis (EP) must also have a negative test for Theileria equi taken within the previous 12 months. Currently this includes Texas but is subject to change.
