[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz, Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, and House Speaker Melissa Hortman today announced that they have reached a budget framework agreement. 

“This is a responsible, thoughtful agreement that maintains a balanced budget while funding our state’s most urgent needs for critical infrastructure, public safety, and emergency services,” said Governor Walz. “Last year we made historic investments and passed sweeping progressive legislation, and this year we’re focused on doing the hard work of putting that legislation into action.”

“DFLers are rightfully proud of the transformational budget we put in place last year, one that ended gridlock and made long overdue progress in areas like education, childcare, housing, and public safety,” said Majority Leader Murphy. “As the investments we made begin to take hold, these supplemental budget targets will protect that work, meet Minnesotans’ urgent needs, and shape what comes next in our work to support Minnesota’s families, workers, consumers, and communities.”

“Last year’s budget made historic investments in the areas Minnesotans across the state value and care about most like education, health care, and economic security,” said Speaker Hortman. “While this is not a budget session, our supplemental budget agreement makes needed short-term investments, builds on the work done last session, and maintains the state’s fiscal stability. DFLers will continue working to build a Minnesota that works better for everyone, where every Minnesotan has the opportunity to succeed and build a better life.”
