[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz has authorized emergency assistance for St. Louis County due to damage caused by heavy rain and flooding from September 23-25.

“Minnesota’s emergency management team coordinates year-round with local counties to address damages caused by severe weather,” said Governor Walz. “The state stands ready to deliver assistance and help communities recover from unexpected severe weather events.”

From September 23-25, St. Louis County experienced significant damage to public infrastructure caused by heavy rain and flooding.

As climate change increases the frequency of extreme weather events, impacts to outdated infrastructure and roadways have caused millions of dollars in damages statewide. Collaborative emergency planning at all levels of government and investments in infrastructure are critical to safeguarding against future damage.
