[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota Department of Transportation today announced that they have secured $25 million in federal funds for improvements to Highway 210 in Brainerd.
“Our roads and bridges power our economy,” said Governor Walz. “Minnesotans who live and do business along this corridor know that this road requires significant safety and structural improvements. I’m grateful for the federal government’s partnership as we work to improve roads, bridges, and transportation all across our state.”
The $25 million Rural Surface Transportation Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Multimodal Discretionary Grants Program is part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden in November 2021. This project will rebuild a 4-mile stretch of Highway 210, also known as Washington Street, from Baxter Drive to Pine Shores Road. It will include accessibility and sidewalk upgrades to improve pedestrian safety, the construction of two roundabouts, and resurfacing of the bridge over the Mississippi River. This project is currently in the design phase, with construction expected to begin in 2026.
