[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz has authorized emergency assistance for seven Minnesota counties due to damage caused by flooding in April.

“Minnesota’s emergency management team is coordinating closely with the counties to address damage caused by spring flooding this year,” said Governor Walz. “We’ll continue working to deliver assistance and help Minnesotans recover from this year’s severe spring flooding.”

From April 11-30, Cass, Itasca, Lyon, Polk, Ramsey, Redwood, and Washington counties experienced significant damage caused by spring flooding.

As climate change increases the frequency of extreme weather events, impacts to outdated infrastructure and roadways have caused millions of dollars in damages statewide. Collaborative emergency planning at all levels of government and investments in infrastructure are critical to safeguarding against future damage.
