[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, Governor Tim Walz signed three bills into law as passed by the Minnesota State Legislature. The bill signing included:
This bill requires Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to prioritize the operators of dry-cleaning facilities in making reimbursements for expenses associated with environmental cleanup. The bill also bans the use of the dry-cleaning solvent perchloroethylene beginning in 2026. It appropriates funds for a cost-sharing program to reimburse dry cleaners for costs associated with transitioning away from perchloroethylene.
The bill provides for the enforcement of orders for protection issued by Canadian courts. It is a uniform act that has been approved by 6 other states. Canada has granted recognition to protection orders from the U.S. This bill accords similar recognition to protection orders from Canada.
The bill expands current law protections for property against equity stripping scams. It clarifies that protections apply not only to mortgage foreclosures, but also to tax forfeitures, foreclosures by homeowners’ associations for nonpayment of dues, and contract for deed terminations.
