[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced the reappointments of the Honorable David A. Stofferahn and Deborah K. Sundquist as judges on the Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals.
The Governor reappointed Judge Stofferahn to a six-year term, which will expire on January 4, 2027.
“Judge Stofferahn has extensive knowledge, experience, and passion for workers’ compensation law,” said Governor Walz. “His many years of distinguished service on the Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals will continue to benefit the court as it addresses novel issues. I look forward to seeing him continue to serve the people of Minnesota.”
“I have every confidence that Judge Stofferahn will continue to serve Minnesotans with distinction,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. “He continues to be dedicated to safety, fairness, and justice in the workplace.”
The Governor also reappointed Judge Sundquist to a six-year term.
“I am honored to reappoint Judge Sundquist to the Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals,” said Governor Walz. “Judge Sundquist is a leader who seeks to serve others. She is deeply committed to the law and exhibits all traits and qualities a judge should have.”

About the Honorable Deborah K. Sundquist
The Honorable Deborah K. Sundquist currently serves as a judge on Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals (WCCA). She was appointed by Governor Dayton in 2015. Previously, Judge Sundquist was in private practice at Aafedt, Forde, Gray, Monson, and Hager, P.A. and Meagher Geer, P.L.L.P., where she represented employers in workers’ compensation litigation. Judge Sundquist began her career at Sundquist Law Firm, a firm dedicated to representing union members. She also served as an officer of the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General Corps during Operation Desert Storm and Persian Gulf War. Her community involvement includes volunteering as a judge for Mock Trial and Moot Court competitions and serving as a mentor for Everybody Wins and the St. Paul At-Risk Youth Program.
The Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals (WCCA) is an independent agency in Minnesota’s executive branch. The WCCA reviews workers’ compensation cases decided by compensation judges at the Office of Administrative Hearings and in some cases decided by the Workers’ Compensation Division at the Department of Labor and Industry.
