[ST. PAUL, MN] - Minnesota Governor Tim Walz today signed Executive Order 20-108 to declare a peacetime emergency and provide assistance to stranded motorists.
On December 23, a powerful winter storm with heavy snowfall and strong winds created blizzard conditions across Minnesota, closing roads and threatening public safety. Last night, the Governor authorized the Minnesota National Guard to assist with the rescue of stranded motorists in Renville and Martin counties and provide the Olivia and Fairmont armories as emergency shelters.
Executive Order 20-108 and the declaration of peacetime emergency is effective immediately and remains in effect until the emergency conditions caused by the winter storm subside or it expires in accordance with Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 12.31, subdivision 2.
